A massive fire broke out in Rangamati’s Sajek Valley, burning at least 15 cottages and restaurants to ashes.
The fire started around noon on Monday (Feb 24) and spread rapidly due to the dry season and water shortage.
Fire service teams from Dighinala, along with members of the army’s Baghaichhari zone, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) from the 27 and 54 battalions, and local residents, are trying to bring the fire under control.
By 3:10 PM, the flames had reached a resort named 'Chander Bari.'
According to Dighinala Fire Service Station Officer Pankaj Kumar Barua, the lack of water is making it difficult to control the fire.
He said the cause of the fire is still unknown, but some locals said it started at Obokash Resort before spreading quickly.
Ekovally, Obokash, Meghchhut, TGB Lusai, Neel Pahar, Tongthong, Adhora, Medventure, Shoilkutir, Fodangthang, Chander Bari, Chilekotha Restaurant, Meghpai Restaurant, and Montana Restaurants burned in this incident.
The authorities are continuing efforts to bring the fire under control, and no casualties have been reported so far.
