Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has returned eight Bangladeshis after detaining them for illegally crossing the border.
They were handed over to Tetulia Model Police Station. Legal proceedings are underway.
The Panchagarh 18 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion confirmed the matter through two separate press releases on Wednesday (Feb 27) night.
The detained individuals are Haren Barman, 40, his wife Mamata Rani, 35, their sons Ajay Kumar Barman, 21, and Nab Barman, 17, Ripon Barman, 17, Sushanta Roy, 22, Ashish Roy, 18, and Robiul Islam, 45. Robiul was detained while extracting stones from the Mahananda River near the border in Salbahan Union’s Lohakachi area and was later returned by the BSF.
Lieutenant Colonel Monirul Islam, commander of Panchagarh 18 BGB Battalion, said that some people attempt to cross illegally through brokers and got detained by BSF.
The detainees have returned home through flag meetings, and legal action is taken against them under Bangladesh’s laws.
Tetulia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Enayet Kabir told Banglanews that BGB is in the process of filing a complaint and taking legal measures.
