Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, has been ranked third on the list of cities with the worst air quality, with an AQI score of 163 at 9:05am on Friday.
The air quality was classified as ‘unhealthy’, posing health risks to residents.
The AQI scale categorizes air quality levels, with values between 101 and 150 indicating an ‘unhealthy for sensitive groups’ status, while levels above 150 are considered ‘unhealthy’.
Pakistan’s Lahore and India’s Delhi topped the list with AQI scores of 238 and 231, respectively.
Dhaka, which struggles with air pollution year-round, faces worsened air quality during winter months, improving slightly in the monsoon.
The city's air pollution is a significant health concern, as the World Health Organization attributes air pollution to seven million deaths annually worldwide.
