Malaysia has expressed its interest to help Bangladesh Election Commission in facilitating ‘Voting system for expatriate Bangladeshis’ ahead of the 12th National Parliamentary Election.
Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Mohammad Suhaimi Othman said this to reporter following a meeting at the EC building on Monday (March 17).
He said that a large number of Bangladeshi expatriates live in Malaysia, and his country supports all electoral reforms under the current government.
Malaysia is interested in sharing its experience to ensure a free, fair, and acceptable election, particularly regarding the voting rights of Bangladeshi migrant workers, he said.
The meeting was attended by representatives of missions from member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and was presided over by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AHM Nasir Uddin.
The EC had invited mission heads from 19 countries, but nine, including Saudi Arabia, did not participate.
Envoys from Algeria, Brunei Darussalam, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Kuwait, Malaysia, Morocco, Pakistan, and the United Arab Emirates took part, while representatives from Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, the Maldives, and Oman were absent.
