13 High Court judges to monitor lower courts

Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed has reconstituted the committee formed to monitor subordinate courts in eight divisions.

The Supreme Court authorities recently issued a notification in this regard.

According to the notification, the Chief Justice of Bangladesh has formed 13 separate 'Monitoring Committees for Subordinate Courts' for eight divisions of the country and has given the responsibility of the mentioned districts to a judge of the High Court division.

At the same time, 13 judges have also been given the responsibility for secretarial support. 

Justice Md. Habibul Gani will oversee Rajshahi-2 Division (Bogra, Joypurhat, Pabna, Sirajganj), Justice JBM Hasan will monitor Barishal Division (Barishal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Jhalokati, Pirojpur, Barguna), and Justice Md. Akram Hossain Chowdhury will supervise Dhaka-1 Division (Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Manikganj, Munshiganj, Narsingdi, Tangail). 

Justice Mahmudul Haque has been assigned to Khulna-1 Division (Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira, Jessore, Narail), Justice Md. Zafar Ahmed to Khulna-2 Division (Kushtia, Meherpur, Chuadanga, Jhenaidah, Magura), Justice Razik Al Jalil to Mymensingh Division (Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sherpur, Netrokona), and Justice Fatema Nazib to Dhaka-2 Division (Kishoreganj, Faridpur, Rajbari, Gopalganj, Shariatpur, Madaripur). 

Justice SM Quddus Zaman will monitor Chittagong-1 Division (Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati, Bandarban, Khagrachari), Justice Shashank Shekhar Sarkar will oversee Rangpur-1 Division (Rangpur, Gaibandha, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat), and Justice Ahmed Sohel has been tasked with Chittagong-2 Division (Noakhali, Feni, Laxmipur, Comilla, Brahmanbaria, Chandpur). 

Justice Sardar Md. Rashed Jahangir has been given responsibility for Rajshahi-1 Division (Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, Natore), Justice KM Hafizul Alam for Rangpur-2 Division (Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh, Nilphamari), and Justice Md. Atabullah for Sylhet Division (Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Habiganj).

Initially, eight judges were appointed to oversee the divisions on 27 January 2022, a number later increased to 13 in October 2023. The current restructuring is aimed at enhancing judicial oversight at the lower court level.
