Two persons were killed after a bus hit a motorcycle on the Kushtia-Jhenaidah highway this morning (April 12).
The victims, Nayan Islam, 25, and Roni Islam, 26, were riding to work when the accident occurred at around 8am in the Batoil area.
Nayan hailed from Shalghar Madhua village in Kumarkhali upazila, while Roni from Durbachara village in Uzangram union. Both were employees of Qiam Metal Industries Limited, a factory on the outskirts of Kushtia town.
Ardesh Ali, senior station officer at Kushtia Fire Service and Civil Defense, confirmed the matter.
He said: “They were on their way to work when their motorcycle collided with a Khulna-bound Gorai Paribahan bus while overtaking another vehicle, leaving Nayan and Roni dead on the spot. However, the third rider, Mizanur Rahman, escaped unhurt.”
Kushtia Chaudhary Highway Police Station chief Syed Al Mamun said that the bodies were recovered and sent to hospital for autopsy.
“We are investigating the incident involving the bus,” he added.
