The government will relocate around 400 Bangladeshi nationals in Tehran to safer locations amid the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict, said Acting Foreign Secretary Ruhul Alam Siddique.

He made the announcement at a press briefing held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka on Tuesday (June 17), arranged to address concerns about the safety of Bangladeshis in Iran.

“Many Bangladeshis in Tehran have expressed the desire to move to safer places. So far, around 100 people have already contacted us. A total of 400 nationals will be relocated to safety, and arrangements will then be made to bring them back home,” Siddique said.

He said that embassy officials and staff members are also under threat. The residence of Bangladesh’s ambassador in Tehran has already been moved, and around 40 people, including embassy staff and their families, will be taken to safer places.

Israel began launching military strikes on various locations in Iran early Friday (June 13), resulting in growing casualties each day. Iran has also carried out retaliatory attacks, leading to deaths and injuries in Israel as well.
