DHAKA: Bangladesh has achieved success in many targets of the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) but it still lag behind in achieving some targets, commented eminent economist Dr Kazi Khaliquzzaman.
The economist said while addressing as chief guest at a seminar titled ‘Development Structure After 2015’, arranged by a development organization called Voice.
He said that Bangladesh is among the 18 countries in achieving the UN established Millennium Development Goal (MDG). But the country is still in lag behind in achieving some targets.
According to him, though child mortality rate has reduced in Bangladesh, the number of malnutrition-affected and hungry people has increased.
Bangladesh’s success in the targets of MDG is not sustainable, Kazi Khaliquzzaman commented adding that the country should set its own target and then implement them.
On behalf of the civil society, the organization’s executive Ahmad Shawkat Mahmud presented 12-point demand aiming to prepare Post-2015 Development Agenda of the country.
He said that existing discrimination in country’s economy and socio-cultural sectors should be eliminated.
