Voting underway in N’ganj-5 by-polls

NARAYANGANJ: Voting for the by-election to Narayanganj-5 constituency is underway peacefully from Thursday morning.

The polling began at 8:00am and will continue till 4:00pm without any break.

Four candidates are contesting in the by-election to the parliamentary constituency.

Narayanganj-5 constituency became vacant with the death of Jatiya Party MP Nasim Osman.

Nasim’s brother Selim Osman is vying for the constituency from Jatiya Party, Shafiqul Islam Delwar from Krishak-Shramik Janata League and SM Akram and Mamun Sirajul Majid as independent candidates.

Centering the by-poll, huge security measures have been taken by law enforcers. One thousand Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel were deployed as striking forces. Besides, thousands of police men were deployed for five level securities.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Media wing Commander Habibur Rahman and RAB-11 Commander Lieutenant Colonel Anwar Latif Khan said that the law enforcers will show the highest skills in the election. Check posts were set up in various key points and dog squad, bomb disposal units remained kept stand by. 

A total of 342,405 voters are expected to cast their votes at 141 centers.
