DHAKA: A total of 62 officials of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Ministry faced action on the basis of specific allegations of irregularities.

Minister Syed Ashraful Islam made the disclosure in reply to a written question in the parliament Sunday.

Syed Ashraf mentioned that some 25 officials were fined Tk 14 lacs, 22 were warned whereas 15 others were temporarily suspended.

He also said that some Tk five-crore was saved as the corruption was halted through stern action.

He added that 90,800 kilometers roads were constructed till June last year. Another 5,789 kilometers road will be repaired under the ongoing project of the ministry.
