Rosatom to launch 4 new nuclear power units

DHAKA: Rosatom’s four new nuclear power units, three in Russia and one in India will go in to production by the end of this year. 

Sergei Kirienko, Head of Russia’s state nuclear power corporation-Rosatom apprised the Prime Minister of Russia Dimitri Medvedev during a meeting with him in Moscow recently.

Kirienko further apprised the Prime Minister that Rosatom’s order book for setting up NPPs, supply of Uranium and nuclear fuel, other relevant products and services has reached aprox. US$ 100 billion, which is just double the amount, two years back.

Rostov-3, Unit-1 of Phase-2 of Novovoronezh NPP and Beloyarsk-4 in Russia and KudanKulam-2 in India are under going final stage of construction and supervision before going in to production by the end of the current year. 

VVER 1000 reactor has been setup at Rostov project, while BN-800 fast reactor at Beloyarsk. First of the newly designed VVER 1200 reactor has been setup at Novovorenezh NPP. Three such reactors are in the process of setting up and Rosatom Plans to setup 14 more by 2030.

Rosatom is presently engaged in nuclear power projects in Bangladesh, Belorussia, China, Finland, Hungary, India, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Vietnam. Paks NPP in Hungary is the first nuclear power project by Rosatom in any European Union country.
