Journos demand Shamim Osman’s arrest

DHAKA: The journalist leaders demanded immediate arrest of ruling Awami League lawmaker Shamim Osman of Narayanganj as he termed journalists as ‘dogs’.

The journo leaders termed Shamim Osman a ‘terror’ and ‘godfather’ of the criminals in Narayanganj.

If he is not arrested shortly, a united protest movement would be enforced, they threatened.

Shamim Osman termed the journalists as ‘dogs’ on Thursday. He said the rich people previously tamed dog currently they tame media.

President of Bangladesh Federal Journalist Union (BFUJ) Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul told banglanews that Shamim Osman should seek pardon shortly for his controversial remarks.

He also urged to the premier and speaker of the Parliament that Shamim Osman should not get any shelter in this regard.

The General Secretary of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Kuddus Afrad told banglanews that the divisive speech of Shamim Osman is an insult for all journalists.

He also said that Shamim Osman should withdraw his words and seek pardon from all the journalists.

The government should take immediate legal actions against him in this regard, he added.

General Secretary of Dhaka Reporters Unity Ilyas Khan said that Shamim Osman has insulted the whole journalist society and he should be arrested for that.

The political leaders should not give him any indulgence, he added.

Bangladesh Federal Journalist Union (BFUJ) president Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, its secretary general Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, president and secretary general of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Altaf Mahmud and Kuddus Afrad along with the journalist leaders from Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi, Bogra, Dinajpur, Jessore, Narayanganj, Mymensingh, Cox’s Bazaar and other districts condemned and criticized the speech of Shamim Osman.

The journo leaders also suggested Shamim Osman to be careful about his language and manner in future.

They urged all to keep the situation calm and peaceful so that the journalists can perform their duty properly.
