DHAKA: An Imam of a local mosque was killed in a road accident on Dhaka-Mymensigh highway on Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Maulana Abdul Hamid, 75, Imam of Tongi BISIC National Jam-e-Masjid hailed from Noakhali Sadar Thana.

Officer-in-Charge of Tongi Model Thana Ismail Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Quoting witnesses, he said a rashly driven passenger bus knocked Maulana Abdul Hamid down while crossing the Dhaka-Mymensigh highway in front of Anarkali Cinema Hall at Tongi, leaving him dead on the spot.

He added: “We have sent the body to Gazipur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.”

Police, with the help of local people, held the driver and seized the bus, he added.
