TANGAIL: A police officer was shot to death by miscreants in east court para of municipal area of the district early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Nurul Islam, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Tangail Thana. 

Sources said that acting on a tip off, the police officer went to the residence of Ulka, son of late Farid Hossain, to recover firearms on Friday night at 11:45pm. 

Sensing the presence of police, miscreants opened fire aiming him, leaving him critically injured. 

Later, he was rushed to Tangail Thana and then shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injury around 11:40am. 

Tangail Thana Officer-in-Charge Akhtaruzzaman confirmed the matter to banglanews.
