DHAKA: Dr Hannan Firoz, Trustee Board president of Stamford University, appealed for bail in Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge Court on Thursday.
Firoj, also former vice-chancellor of the varsity, is accused in attempt to murder Awami League central committee member a former Chhatra League president AKM Enamul Haq Shamim.
The hearing of the bail was held in the court of justice Md Zahurul Haq in Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge Court.
Earlier, the court placed him on eight-day remand in separate phases after arresting him on July 16 from his Dhanmondi residence.
Police said another accused Rana Hawladar gave confessional statement under the section 164 about the involvement of Firoj in the attempt to kill Shamim.
On June 19 miscreants had fired at AKM Enamul Haque Shamim in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi.
The next day, police arrested seven people in connection with the case.
