Accused set to get “indemnity”

DHAKA: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is set to give indemnity to the accused without submitting charge sheet over the Padma Bridge scam.

ACC submitted the investigation report on Sunday afternoon before the commission also set to acquit the accused seven people, i+ncluding former Bridges Division Secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan and three official of Canadian company Lavalin.

Those seven was accused under First Information Report (FIR).

Deputy Director of ACC and also chief investigation officer of the case Mirza Jahidul Alam submitted the probe report.

ACC sources confirmed the matter to banglanews about the matter.

According to the statement, the team did not find any misdeed against former communications minister Syed Abul Hossain and former state minister for foreign affairs ministry Abul Hasan Chowdhury.

The ACC sources claimed that the case was filed through final report as the case has no merit, lack of witnesses and information.

They could not able to issue charge sheet for the lack of information, he added.

When contracted ACC Commissioner (Investigation) M Shahabuddin Chuppu declined to say anything about the report.

On December 17, 2012 ACC filed a corruption case against seven officials, including former bridge secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan on charge of corruption in Padma bridge project.
