DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the history of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) is the history of Bangladesh.

She came up with the assertion in a mass rally marking national mourning day organized by ruling Awami League’s student wing BCL at Suhrawardy Udyan in city on Sunday afternoon.

Sheikh Hasina said that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman started his political life as a student leader. He established Chhatra League in 1948 aiming to establish Bangla as a state language, she added.

The PM said, moreover, Chhatra League played a vital role in getting independence. For that reason, Bangabandhu said that the history of Chhatra League is the history of Bangladesh.

The premier also mentioned that she also started her political life as a Chhatra League activist.

Mentioning the pivotal role played by Bangabandhu and Awami League for the betterment of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina said, Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Mujib inspired Bangabandhu for his works.

Addressing Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s historic 7 March speech, she said that Bangabandhu was suffering from fever on that day. Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Mujib encouraged and motivated him to deliver the speech to millions of people for the independence of the country.

The speech motivated the mass to achieve independence from the Pakistanis, she further said.

Hasina said that Bangabandhu was arrested and taken to Pakistan but he was not afraid. He was ready to die but to achieve the country’s independence, she added.

Bangabandhu started taking care of the war-torn country and initiated many programs to reform the state, the PM said.

According to her, when the enemies realized that the progress of Bangladesh was a must they killed him and his family brutally.

Sheikh Hasina, also a daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman said that she has been working for the people with a bereaved heart as her father and relatives were killed brutally on August 15 in 1975.

But the satisfaction is in sacrifice not in indulgence, she commented.

She also alerted the BCL leaders and activists and also suggested them to be aware of the war criminals.

The BCL should play a vital role so that the evil force cannot exercise their power again, she added.
