DHAKA: Gold was being headlines one after one in past couple of months. Sometime from belt-buttons, or sometime from Chyawanprash’s bottle, following these on Wednesday gold was seized from a man’s trolley bag’s handle at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in city.

Sources told banglanews that custom officials also detained the person in the morning for possessing 720 grams of gold.

However, the detainee, Shah Alam, was the passenger of a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines ‘BG 087’ from Kuala Lumpur landed Dhaka around 6.00am.

Assistant commissioner (custom) Sampriti Pramanik of the airport said that custom intelligence officials, on secret information, challenged Shah Alam.

Later, he added, the officials carried out a search and found 720 grams of gold, including nine gold bars and a piece of bracelet from the handle of his trolley.

Mentioning the detainee’s hand over to the police, Shahjalal’s custom assistant commissioner, further said that smugglers now-a-days are trying to pass gold in illegal ways.

But, due to close surveillance, the smugglers can not make easy passes, he added saying custom department is able to seize gold consignment in most of the cases.
