DHAKA: Alleged war criminal against Jamaat Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam was taken to the court as the International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT) is set to pronounce its verdict in a war crime cases against him.
He was taken to the court around 9:00am in prison van.
On Monday, the tribunal led by its chairman Justice Enayetur Rahimon the kept the case on the top of the cause list for Tuesday.
On September 18, the court kept the judgment ‘CAV’ (curia advisari vult or keeping the judgment until a later time).
ATM Azhar is facing a total of six different charges of “crimes against humanity”, including abduction, confinement, torture, killing, conspiracy and genocide, committed during the War of Independence in 1971.
Investigation agency quizzed Azhar at ‘Safe Home’ on February 11 this year.
Azhar was arrested from his residence in the city’s Moghbazar area hours after the tribunal issued an arrest warrant against him on August 22, 2012.
