DHAKA: Labeling BNP-led 20-party alliance as miscreants, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday sought cooperation from all to stop those responsible for creating violence in the name of hartal and blockade.
“It is intolerable that when our government is working relentlessly to develop our homeland, the anarchists are pushing the country backward,” she said.
The premier, also ruling Awami League president, came up with the assertion while addressing the Ekushey Padak distribution ceremony at Osmani Memorial in the city on Thursday.
Sheikh Hasina said that it is not acceptable that the common people are suffering due to wrong decisions of a political party.
She also expressed hope to get cooperation of people from all walks of life to free the country from miscreants and their destructive activities.
Criticizing the movement of BNP allies, Sheikh Hasina said that creating violence, burning and harassing people cannot be a part of politics.
BNP-led 20-party coalition is creating violence in the name of hartal-blockade, she added.
The PM also said that the alliance is calling hartal in each working day so that the SSC and other equivalent examinees are being hampered.
The future of some 15 lakh students and education system of the country are facing a big threat, PM added.
Sheikh Hasina said that some 4 crore 44 lakh 52,374 innocent students of the country are suffering and their education life is in a huge risk due to the so called blockades and hartals.
The AL chief said that 93 people have been burnt alive in last few days while over 1,000 sustained burn injuries due to arson attack and violence of BNP and its ally.
Recalling the sacrifice of the language martyrs, she said that February 21 is the recognition of our language movement. The day inspires us to upright our head and boosts our cognition. It is a day of honor and dignity. The February 21 is the linguistic, cultural and traditional origin of our own as a nation, she added.
However, the Premier Sheikh Hasina handed over prestigious Ekushey Padak to 15 eminent personalities of the country in the program.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor also spoke at the function.
