Bandits take ride on passenger bus

Gunfire by gang: 2 injured

DHAKA: A gang of bandits masquerading as minibus passengers fired on police patrols and fled after a long chase from Joydevpur into capital’s Merul Badda area early Wednesday, leaving two wounded.

Police said an Ansar member of the patrol team and a Baridhara DIT project’s security guard were wounded by bullet in the gunfight that ensued as the police team of Joydevpur fired back in front of Serajuddin School & College.

The injured were Mohammad Ali, 37, Ansar member, and Rafiqul Islam, DIT project’s security guard.

Badda thana Operation Officer SI Shahjahan Bhuiyan told banglanews24.com.bd that a patrol team of Joydevpur thana set up a check-post and checked vehicles on the Dhaka-Mymensingh road on Tuesday night.

They ordered a minibus of Suprovat Paribahan to halt for checking. “Violating police signal, the mini speedily started running towards Dhaka.”  

Police chased the vehicle on flight and blocked its way in front of number-10 gate of DIT project at South Baridhara at about 4:00 am.

“At that time, 6-7 bandits boarding the bus fired 7-8 shots on the law-enforces. The law-enforcers responded. But, finally, the gangsters ran away leaving the bus on the spot,” SI Shahjahan said about the predawn gunfight.

Badda thana informed that Ansar member Ali, an associate of the patrol team, was wounded in both of his legs and Rafique, a local night guard of Merul area, in his right leg.

On information, Badda police rushed to the spot to the cops’ rescue. The bus was seized and the injured were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
