BENAPOLE, JESSORE: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh on Sunday seized 169 turtles smuggled to Bangladesh through Benapole border from India.

BGB-26 Nayek Subader Abdur Rahim told banglanews that acting of tip off, a team of BGB recovered the turtles from Baropota bazaar on Benapole-Putkhali road around 9:00am.

But, none could be detained in this connection, he added.

Sensing the presence of BGB members, smugglers fled the spot abandoning a sack in the area and then 169 turtles have been recovered from the sack.

The seized turtles would be handed over to forest department, the BGB official added.
