79 Bangladeshis die in hajj stampede, 90 missing

RIYADH: Saudi Arab government confirmed deaths of 79 Bangladeshis in the stampede while performing hajj rituals in Mina on September 24.

Of them, identity of 66 Bangladeshis have been found and 90 others still remained missing, Bangladesh Consulate in Jeddah consul general KM Shahidul Karim confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said family members of two deceased appealed for sending the dead bodies to home. Measures have been taken to bury the rests of the dead in Saudi Arabia, Shahidul Karim added.

On the other hand, DNA tests are going to confirm the identity of the rests of unidentified bodies. Relative who are in Saudi have been asked to provide their DNA sample at Al Nur Specialized Hospital in Makkah.

Besides, relatives can also give their DNA samples through health ministry of Bangladesh.

On September 24, the stampede took place during the ‘stoning the devil’ ritual of hajj in Mina.
