Cricketer Shahadat sent to jail

DHAKA: A city court on Tuesday ordered to send cricketer Shahadat Hossain Rajib to jail after rejecting the bail plea over torturing a domestic help.

Court of Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Qamrul Islam passed the order.

Earlier, Mirpur Model Thana officer-in-charge (OC-Operation) Shafiq Ahmed appealed to keep Shahadat in jail till the completion of investigation after producing the accused before Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court following a three-day remand.

However, Advocate Nazibullah Hiru appealed for the cricketer’s bail.

On September 6, cricketer Shahadat and his wife were sued for torturing their housemaid Mahfuza Akter Happy at their Mirpur residence in city.

Journalist Khandaker Mozammel Hossain had filed the case with Mirpur police station under Section 4 (2) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000.

According to the case statement, plaintiff Mozammel found the 11-year-old with marks of injury on her face and bruises across her body at Pallabi Journalist Colony area on September 6.
