BENAPOLE: Members of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive rescued 20 people, including eleven women and two children, who were being smuggled into India through Benapole border on Friday night.
However, BGB could not arrest any of traffickers as they managed to flee the spot.
Identity of the detainees could not known yet. They hailed from Jessore, Khulna Narail, Satkhira and Bagerhat districts, BGB officials said.
BGB-23 Battalion Putkhal check post camp Subedar Farid Uddin told banglanews that tipped off that some Bangladeshis are being trafficked to India through Putkhali border, a team of BGB conducted drive in the area.
Sensing their presence, traffickers escaped the spot leaving the 27 people. Later, BGB handed over them to Benapole port thana.
