BRAHMANBARIA: Miscreants opened fire at police van of Sadar Thana in Ghatura area, on outskirts of the district town, Tuesday night.

Later, the van plunged into a roadside ditch while chasing the private car of the miscreants, leaving five police officials, injured.

The injured are sub-inspector Abdul Awal Bhuiyan, Constables Abul Bashar, 25, Mithun Chandranath, 22, shahidul Islam, 26 and Ariful Islam, 25.

Brahmanbaria additional police super MA Masud told banglanews that a team of Sadar Thana police was patrolling in Ghatura area on Comilla-Sylhet Highway at night. They had information that some miscreants were heading towards Brahmanbaria town riding on a private car carrying firearms and drugs.

Then police signaled the car to stop in Ghatura area. As it ignored the signal, police chased them. At one stage, the miscreants opened fire on law enforcers that forced the police van fell into roadside ditch, leaving five injured
