DHAKA: The Supreme Court (SC) ordered the parliament secretariat to submit blueprint of the original design of Jatiya Sangsad by Louis I Kahn within three months.
The three-member Appellate Division bench led by chief justice SK Sinha passed the order on Wednesday while hearing a petition field by the government against a High Court order.
Additional Attorney General Murad Reza informed banglanews about the development.
Later, he said that in reply to writ petition, the High Court on June 21 in 2004 declared residences of speaker and deputy speaker near Jatiya Sangsad illegal.
He also questioned that how the HC declared the residences of the speaker illegal without examining the master plan of Louis I kahn.
In its order, the HC also ordered the government to take steps to announce the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban as a world heritage.
He said, ‘We are information that the master plan of Jatiya Sangsad is available at the archives of Pennsylvania University in USA. After getting the design, it will be cleared about the position of the establishments’.
It is mentionable that Bangladesh government has recently taken initiatives to bring back the original design by Louis I Kahn for Agargaon area including Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban from the university.
Louis Kahn designed the entire Jatiya Sangsad complex, which includes lawns, lake and residences for the Members of the Parliament (MPs).
