DIG rules out IS link in cop murder

BAROIPARA, ASHULIA: Dhaka range deputy inspector general (DIG) Mahfuzul Haque Nuruzzaman brushed aside the involvement of militant outfit Islamic State (IS) in murder of police officer in Ashulia.

He made the comment while talking to reporters during a visit to murder scene at Baroipar of Ashulia on Dhaka-Tangail highway on Thursday.

In reply to a query of reporters on ‘IS takes responsibility of the killing’ the DIG said there is no IS existence in the country. A fake group is using the name of IS to create panic here.

A vested quarter is doing so to destabilize country and pushed the government to an uneasy situation, he added.

About the identities of the assailants he opined that the people who want to make Bangladesh a weak and a destabilized country, create insecurity among people and the people who were assassinators of ’71, ’75, saboteurs of 2013-14, might be involved in the latest killing.

The DIG went on saying, ‘The killers will be identified and brought under trial soon’.

Dhaka district police super Habibur Rahman, additional police super Kazi Ashraful Azim and Ashulia Thana OC Mohsinul Kadir, among others, were present at the time.

Later, the DIG visited wounded police constables at Enam Medical College and Hospital in Savar.

On Wednesday, a constable of industrial police, Mukul Hossain, was killed and four other sustained injuries in an attack of miscreants in Baroipara check-post on Nabinagar-Kaliakoir road in Ashulia of Dhaka.
