DHAKA: Two magistrates have entered the Dhaka Central Jail to meet condemned war criminals Ali Ahsan Mujahid and Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.

All preparations have been completed to execute the two death-row convicts for wartime crimes. Entry of the two magistrates escalated the process one more step.   

Dhaka District Administration magistrates Mushfique and Tanvir entered the jail around 10am Saturday to talk to Salauddin Quader and Mujahid regarding their decisions on seeking presidential clemency, said jail sources.

Gallows are ready at Dhaka central jail since Friday evening for execution of the two condemned war criminals Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Ali Ahsan Mujahid and BNP Standing Committee member Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.

Two experienced executioners—Shajahan and Razu-- are ready to carry out the death sentences of the two war criminals.

Besides, other executioner named Abul, Hazrat, Masud, Iqbal and Mukter have also been kept standby, Jail authority confirmed.

Earlier on Friday, executive order of home ministry has reached jail for executing of the death penalty of two convicted war criminals.  Medical checkup of the duo has also been completed.

Earlier on Thursday night, verdicts of the review appeal were read out to the both death row war crimes convicts.

On November 18, the Appellate Division of SC upheld the ICT death sentences for Chowdhury and Mujahid for their respective crimes during the country’s war of independence in 1971.
