HABIGANJ: A man was killed and 15 others injured in a fierce clash between two groups at Shibpur village under Lakhai upazila of the district on Tuesday.

Sources said supporters of former Union Parishad member Manju and Fajalu group locked into clash over establishing supremacy in the area, leaving 16 people injured from both sides.

The injured were rushed to Lahkai Upazila Health Complex and on duty doctors declared fatally injured Jewel Mia, 28, dead.  

Confirming the matter, Lakhai Thana Officer-in-Charge Nazim Uddin said additional police were deployed in the area to avert further clash.

Police conducted a drive to arrest persons involved in the clash.

“The body of Jewel was sent to Habiganj Modern Hospital for autopsy,” he added.
