Polytechnic students’ mayhem in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI: At least 50 people were injured in a clash between police and students in Rajshahi Polytechnic institute in the city on Monday.

30 students were held from the spot.

Witnesses said that the students started protest in their campus to press 2-point demand and police obstacle triggered a clash, leaving 50 injured including police.

At one stage students came on Rajshahi-Naogaon highway and police fired 20-30 rounds tear shells and two hundreds rubber bullets to bring the situation under control.

Following the incident vehicular movements on Rajshahi-Naogaon highway were halted.

Meanwhile, agitated students vandalized 30 vehicles.

Later, law enforcers in a drive held 30 people from the spot.

Confirming the matter Baulia Model Thana Officer-in-Charge Ziaur Rahman Zia told banglanews, “Shibir activists in guise of polytechnic students lock into the clash.”

Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel were deployed in the area to avoid untoward situation, he added.
