Brawls over arrest of Jamaat top order 65 shibir activists sent to jail, 5 remanded

DHAKA: Sixty-five shibir activists, arrested Wednesday from city’s Kotwali, Paltan and Ramna thana areas amid backlash againt the arrest of three top Jamaat leaders, were sent to jail Thursday on court order.

Five of the Islamic student politicos were taken on two days’ police remand for interrogation on several cahrges.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate SK Tofael Hasan granted the remand on Thursday afternoon after Ramna thana SI Shahriar Hasan filed a petition seeking five-day remand.

The five who were remanded are Md. Kabir Hossain, Ahmed Ojayer, Nuruzzaman, Abdul Hannan and Ruhul Amin.

Several allegations, including intercepting policemen on discharge of their duties, have been brought against the accused.
