3 top Jamaat leaders accused in duo Faruque murder cases

DHAKA: Detained Jamaat Ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami, secretary-general Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojahid and Nayab-e-Ameer Delawar Hossain Sayedee have been implicated in Chhatra League leader Faruqe and burn victim Faruqe killing cases.

Police took the three top leaders of Jamaat on four days’ remand Wednesday for interrogation over the death of the latter who had suffered fatal burn injuries in a pre-hartal arson attack, a day after their arrest in a different case of allegedly hurting Muslims’ religious sentiment.

They are on a total of 16 days’ remand in five cases.

Earlier, they were shown arrested in the case of Rajshaahi University unit Chhatra League leader Faruqe Hossain’s murder.

The second Faruque suffered severe burns when a car was torched on the night before the June 27 hartal and died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital early Thursday.

Ramna OC Shiblee Noman said the case that was filed in this connection against the three Jamaat leaders with his police station has been changed into a murder case as Faruque Hossain died.
