‘Pakistan should be banned from SAARC, UN’

DHAKA: Dhaka University (DU) vice-chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique on Friday said that initiatives have to be taken to ban Pakistan from South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and United Nations (UN).

He came up with the observation while speaking at a discussion meeting, organized by Bangabandhu Education and Research Association at National Press Club of the city on Friday to commemorate the Victory Day.

“All types of relation of DU with Pakistan will remain closed till their seeking apology officially for the mass killings during the Liberation War in 1971,” he added.

Demanding severing diplomatic ties with the country, the VC said that DU does not feel the necessity of continuing any relationship with a country like Pakistan.

Member of Bangladesh Public Service Commission and also Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Professor Dr. Kamrul Hasan Khan, BAR council vice-chairman Abdul Baset Majumder, and its member Advocate SM Rejaul Karim and pro vice-chancellor of Islamic University of Kushtia Dr Shahinur Rahman, among others, were present in the program.

Recently, Pakistan denied their involvement with the mass killings during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.
