Former Bangladesh cricket captain and newly elected Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Aminul Islam Bulbul described his experience of voting in the board election as something entirely new and “first-time” for him.
Voting for the much-anticipated BCB election began on Monday morning (October 6) at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka, with councillors arriving steadily from 10 am to cast their ballots.
Speaking to reporters after casting his vote, Bulbul said, “I’ve never participated in an election before. What I’m seeing feels like the first time. I’ll share my thoughts in detail once the election is over.”
This year’s BCB election is notable for the participation of several former national cricketers, either as candidates or as voters. Polling will continue until 4 pm, and preliminary results are expected around 6 pm. The new board’s first meeting will then select the president and two vice-presidents, with the official announcement scheduled for around 9 pm.
The election will form a new 25-member BCB board — 23 through direct voting and two nominated by the National Sports Council (NSC).
The involvement of Bulbul and other ex-players in the board’s administrative process has sparked optimism within Bangladesh’s cricket fraternity.
