Bulbul reelected BCB President; Faruque-Shakhawat Vice Presidents Aminul Islam Bulbul

Former Bangladesh captain Aminul Islam Bulbul has been re-elected today (Oct 6) as the President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), securing the position unopposed after the board’s latest round of elections.

The election for the top post took place on Monday at a Dhaka hotel following the conclusion of the board of directors’ vote earlier in the day.

Bulbul’s return to the presidency had been widely anticipated after his main rival, Tamim Iqbal, withdrew his candidacy several days before the election. With no other contenders stepping forward, Bulbul was elected uncontested.

While Bulbul’s victory was expected, attention turned to who would be chosen as BCB’s vice presidents — a decision that had generated considerable interest within the cricket community.

The results confirmed that former BCB president Faruque Ahmed and cricket organiser Shakhawat Hossain have been elected to the two vice-presidential posts.

From Category 1, representing the Dhaka Division, both Bulbul and Shakhawat secured election as directors, while Faruque Ahmed won from Category 2, representing club-level voters. Aside from Shakhawat and Faruque, no other nominations were filed for the vice-president positions, meaning both were also elected unopposed.

Bulbul first assumed charge as BCB president on 30 May, serving a four-month interim term. Having successfully completed that period, the former national captain now begins a full four-year term leading Bangladesh’s cricket administration.

Before Bulbul’s appointment, Faruque Ahmed had served as acting BCB president for around nine months. Under the new board, he now returns as vice president, bringing continuity to the leadership team.

Shakhawat Hossain, meanwhile, has been elected to the BCB board for the first time, representing the Barishal Division. The former cricketer has also worked recently as Bulbul’s adviser on cricket tourism, contributing to the board’s strategic initiatives.

In Monday’s election, 23 directors were chosen across three categories through voting, while two additional directors will be nominated by the National Sports Council, bringing the total number of board members to 25.
