Renowned Bangladeshi singer Asif Akbar has been elected unopposed as a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
The BCB Board of Directors election is scheduled for 6 October, with Wednesday marking the final day for withdrawal of candidacy. By 12 noon, 16 director candidates, including former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal, had withdrawn their nominations.
From the Chattogram District Sports Association, Mir Helal Uddin also withdrew, leaving only two valid contenders in the Chattogram Division — Asif Akbar, a councillor from the Cumilla District Sports Association, and Ahsan Iqbal Chowdhury from the Chattogram Divisional Sports Association. With two director positions available and no extra candidates, both were elected unopposed.
Initially, four nominations were submitted from the Chattogram Division. After scrutiny, Chandpur’s Shawkat was disqualified, leaving three valid candidates. Following further withdrawals, no voting is required in the division.
In the past three terms, Akram Khan and AJM Nasir Uddin served as directors from Chattogram Division.
