Preeti's death: Naripokkho, HRFB demand proper investigation

Several rights bodies including Naripokkho and the Human Rights Forum Bangladesh (HRFB) today (Feb 12) demanded a proper investigation into the death of Preeti Urang, who used to work as a domestic help at the residence of a journalist.

In a statement, Naripokkho urged the law enforcement agencies to bring the accused to justice through an impartial investigation into the death of the ethnic girl.

On 6 February Preeti, a 15-year-old, died after she fell from the 8th floor of a building on Shajahan Road in the capital’s Mohammadpur area. Preeti was serving as a domestic help at the home of Daily Star executive editor Syed Ashfaqul Haque.

Police detained the Haque along with his wife Tania Khandaker, daughter Afrin Haque, son Syed Ahnaf Mahmud, his sister-in-law Rajia Khandaker, and her husband Al-Razi Mahbub.

Naripokkho, a women's rights advocacy platform, has made an appeal to the government, police administration, and judicial department that every guilty person should be brought to justice by uncovering the true facts.

Meanwhile, the HRFB has expressed deep concern over the death of domestic worker Preeti Urang. In a statement on Monday, the civil society platform demanded a ‘fair and impartial investigation’ and trial of this incident.

HRFB also demanded the necessary security for Preeti's family.
