Foreign Affairs Adviser M. Touhid Hossain has said Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar may visit Dhaka in April.
He said both sides are working on this visit.
Affairs Adviser made the remarks during a media briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.
In response to a question, the adviser said, “We assume that the Pakistani foreign minister will visit, but the exact date has not been decided yet. However, I do not expect it to happen before April. There is still time, and we will make some decisions.”
He said that Bangladesh and Pakistan still have unresolved issues from the past 53 years, which will be raised during the visit.
However, the adviser emphasized that dwelling on those issues alone would not be beneficial for either country.
“We will try to protect and recover our interests while also viewing our relationship with Pakistan as that of one country with another. We do not want to consider it a hostile relationship. Pakistan is a South Asian nation, and we have mutual interests,” he said.
The adviser also highlighted the resumption of shipping between the two countries, calling it a positive development.
In the end, he added Bangladesh would seek to maximize the benefits of this cooperation.
