Dutch Queen’s busy time in Gazipur Máxima Zorreguieta Cerruti

Dhaka: On the second day of her Bangladesh visit, queen Máxima Zorreguieta Cerruti of The Netherlands has passed a busy day in Gazipur district on Tuesday (November 17).

Early in the morning, she visited garments factory, ‘One Home, One Farm Project’ and Digital Server Center in the district adjacent to capital Dhaka.

Queen Máxima left for Gazipur from Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel on the day.

First, she reached Tongi to visit Vienna Tex Garments. Besides observing the activities and productions of the garments factory, she communicated with the workers. She wanted to know about the economic condition of the workers serving the factories. Her concern was mostly left for the condition of female workers.

Later in the afternoon, the Queen attended a meeting with the Bangladesh Bank’s governor Dr Atiur Rahman and other government officials.

She attended several meetings with development partners, civil society and non-government representatives. Other than this, Queen Máxima exchanged views with bank and micro-credit officials.

The security measures regarding the Queen’s visit to Gazipur had been very tight. During her visit, Gazipur deputy commissioner (DC) SM Alam, BRAC chairperson Sir Fozle Hasan Abed, the Bangladesh ambassador to The Netherlands Sheikh Muhammad Belal and UN resident coordinator Robert Watkins, among others, were present at the program.

Queen Máxima also exchanged her views with Bkash, a cell-phone-based money sending service provider.

After finishing off her visit to garments factory, she went to Sripur’s Rajbari and visited Rajbari Union Parishad Digital Server Center and ‘One Home, One Farm Project’. At that time, the project director Advocate Rahmat Ali was present. Later, she left for Dattapur Boutique House in Tongi.

In the capital Dhaka as well, strict security has been ensured because of her visit. One week prior to her arrival, a team of Dutch Security Force came in Dhaka.

On Wednesday afternoon (18 November), through a press conference, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will highlight the visit of this special envoy of United Nations. Later at night, she is scheduled to leave Dhaka.

It is to be noted that UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, back in 2009, appointed Queen Máxima as an advisor to Inclusive Finance for Development.
