DHAKA: Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader on Thursday said passenger and cargo vehicles will begin plying across the borders of four countries – Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal (BBIN) – from January of 2016.

He came up with the observations at a press conference organized at his secretariat office about BBIN Motor Rally on Thursday.

Currently, the motor rally is in Sikkim of India.

The minister also said that they have taken preparations to welcome the rally to Bangladesh and ensure its security here.

The BBIN Friendship Motor rally has started from Bhubaneshwar of India on November 14.

All four countries have joined the rally to highlight the sub-regional connectivity and the scope and opportunities for greater people-to-people contact and trade under the BBIN initiative.

On June 15, 2015, the transport ministers of four south Asian countries – Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal, now better known as the BBIN – signed a landmark Motor Vehicles Agreement (MVA) in Thimpu of Bhutan.
