DHAKA: Five defense lawyers have been waiting at the gate of Dhaka Central Jail since Friday morning to meet death row convict war criminal Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Mujahid.

They claimed to have permission Thursday to meet Mujahid at 10am Friday, but got no call from jail authority till 12pm.

In this regard, Jailer Nesar Alam said, “They have not got the permission to meet Mujahid as they can’t meet him legally anymore, but his family can.”

Meanwhile, two experienced executioners—Shajahan and Razu-- are ready to carry out the death sentences of war criminals Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Mujaheed and BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.

Besides, one other executioner named Sattar has been kept standby, Jail authority confirmed on Thursday night.

Earlier on Thursday night, verdicts of the review appeal were read out to the both death row war crimes convicts.

On November 18, the Appellate Division of SC upheld the ICT death sentences for Chowdhury and Mujahid for their respective crimes during the country’s war of independence in 1971.
