DHAKA: Anti-smoking campaigns got a boost as all the police premises in the capital--thanas, outposts, check-posts and police boxes—were made off-limits to smoking from Monday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner AKM Shahidul Haq interdicted an order banning the smoking in all these places under his jurisdiction.

But the type of punishment for violation of the taboo had no mention in the directive.

A senior official of the metropolitan police headquarters told banglanews24.com.bd, “Any cop violating the order will face departmental punishment.”

Earlier, Home Minister advocate Sahara Khatun had declared a plan to renovate all the police stations across the country as smoking-free zones from the World No-Tobacco Day on May 30.
