IPPF cancels TK 40cr fund

DHAKA: International Plant Parenthood Federation (IPPF), a Global Donor Agency, canceled a TK 40 crore fund to Family Planning Association of Bangladesh (FPAB) after government dissolved its ‘National Executive Council’ and appointed administrator.

FPAB secretary general Nasir Ahmed Babul confirmed it to banglanews.

He alleged that the self-willed attitude of state minister for Women and Children affairs Meher Afroz Chumki, the global donor agency on August 12 cancelled it’s annul allocation for this year.  Besides, it asked not to spend TK 14 crore which was disbursed in last year.

As a result, different programmes of the FPAB were stopped and salary of 6,000 employees in 32 districts remained unpaid, he added.

But refuting the allegation, the state Minister told banglanews that it is not my ministry’s matter. Social welfare ministry investigated into the allegation against FPAB.  After evidence found in support of allegations, Department of Social Services dissolved FPAB’s Executive Committee and appointed an administrator.

Social Welfare joint secretary Hossain Molla was appointed for probe into the allegations against FPAB ----its secretary general Nasir Uddin Ahmed is making disturbance in daily task of the organization through staying 24-hour at office.  Besides, three officers were sacked to serve political interest though they worked there for 30 years sincerely.

As per probe report recommendations, the government on August 12 appointed Social Welfare Ministry joint secretary Sushen Chabdra Roy as administrator.

After that APAB alleged that the administrator gave directives on financial matter violating the charter of the organization.

In response to the allegation, the international donor agency suspended the aid.
