PM inaugurates 64 IT labs for Model Schools

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, at her office, Wednesday inaugurated newly established Information Technology Laboratories (IT labs) in model schools in the 64 districts of the country.

This is in fulfillment of the commitment made by Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh, during his visit to Bangladesh in September 2011 setting up IT labs in model schools of each of the 64 districts of Bangladesh.

The schools were identified by the Government of Bangladesh.  

Each IT lab has 10 computers with high speed internet connection. The project has been implemented at a cost of Tk 4.30 crore.

India High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pankaj Saran, in the inauguration ceremony told, “Today marks an important milestone in the development of the partnership between India and Bangladesh, the foundations of which were laid by Your Excellency (PM Sheikh Hasina) during your historic visit to India in 2010.”

Pankaj Saran also praised Bangladesh’s recent achievements in the education sector and the vision of Digital Bangladesh of incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He also said: “The labs will benefit hundreds of school children across the country by bringing the world to their doorstep. It will make them more enlightened and productive citizens and contribute to the attainment of the objective of Digital Bangladesh Vision 2021.”
