Fishermen are set to resume catching hilsa as the 22-day ban on catching, selling, hoarding and transporting of the fish is going to end on Monday midnight.
The government earlier imposed the ban starting October 4 on catching, selling and transporting hilsa across the country to ensure safe spawning of the fish, during its peak breeding season.
Hilsa fishes move from coastal areas to the major rivers like Padma and Meghna to lay eggs during the month of October. Around 60 percent of Hilsa lay eggs in this period.
As the ban is about to end, fishermen have become busy hunting for hilsa.
Meanwhile, 11 thousand 118 metric tons VGF rice were allocated for the fishermen during the van, sources in the ministry said.
