Law ministry for extending Khaleda’s jail suspension by 6 months

Law Minister Anisul Huq has said his ministry is in favour of extending the suspension of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's jail sentence in two corruption cases for six more months.

Anisul Huq confirmed the matter to the media on Sunday (Sep 18).

The Ministry of Home Affairs will issue a notification in this regard, he added.

Earlier, Law Minister said the government will extend the suspension of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's jail sentence if her family files any petition.

The former prime minister freed from jail on March 25, 2020 after the government suspended her jail sentence for six months.

On 8 February, 2018, she was sent to Old Dhaka Central Jail after she was sentenced to five years' imprisonment by a special court in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.

Later, she was convicted in a second corruption case.

Currently, BNP chairperson has been staying at her Gulshan residence since her release from jail.
