BNP holds countrywide demonstration Monday

DHAKA: The opposition BNP will stage demonstrations across the country protesting the arrests of the party leaders and activists during Sunday’s dawn-to-dusk hartal.

The party will hold a protest rally in the city’s Muktangon at 3:00pm. Besides, District units will also hold protest programmes as per schedule in respective areas.

BNP secretary general Khondokar Delwar Hossain announced the programme at a press conference Sunday at the BNP Paltan office.

He also termed the government interference in the general strike ‘unfair action’ and demanded immediate release of the arrested BNP leaders and activists during the hartal.

“We held the hartal peacefully, but the government directed law enforcers to assault our people. We protest this heinous activity of government,” said Delwar at the press meet.

He also condemned the attack on BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas.

He termed the hartal ‘a spontaneous answer of the people to ruling government repression’.

BNP standing committee member Dr. Khondokar Mosharraf Hossain, vice chairman Sadek Hossain Khoka, adviser to the Chairperson Shamsuzzaman Dudu, senior joint-secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, joint-secretary general Amanullah Aman, among others, attended the meet.
