A Jamalpur court today (March 7) awarded life-term rigorous imprisonment to five train robbers for looting and killing a passenger of a train in the district in 2011.
The convicted robbers are Jiban, 28, son of Dudu Miah of Bostitola village under Bhoirab upazila in Kishorganj district, Shipon, 25, son of Md Shahid of Dhaladia village under Shreepur upazila in Gazipur, Rakib, 18, son of Jahangir of city’s Mirpur area, Sohel Miah,20 son of Kamal Miah at village Matha Bhanga under Homna upazila in Kumilla and Roni, 22, son of Shawkat Ali of Shimulia village under Shibaloy upazila in Manikganj district.
According to the case details, the dacoits swooped on Dewanganj bound commuter train from Dhaka on February 17, 2011, night. The bandits looted the valuables and cash from the passengers. Later they strangulated him to death and threw the body out of the train at a place in between Narundi and Piyarpur railway station.
After the incident, Assistant- Sub-Inspector Mir Majnu filed a case with Jamalpur Railway Police on May 13, 2011. Following the case Chattagram Railway Police after detailed investigation submitted the charge sheet of the case against them on April 30 in 2012.
Special District and Session Judge of Jamalpur Mohammad Abu Taher after examining eight witnesses and relevant documents found them guilty and awarded life term rigorous imprisonment until their death in absence of Roni who went into absconding after getting bail from a court.
