Bakshiganj Municipality polls will be held on Saturday as Election Commission (EC) has completed all preparations to conduct the vote in a peaceful atmosphere.
District Election Officer and Returning Officer Mohammad Shaniazzaman Talukdar confirmed the matter on Friday (Mar 8).
He said all preparations have been taken to hold the polls in a free, fair and impartial manner.
The municipality consisted of nine wards. A total of 35,518 voters will franchise their voting rights by Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in 12 vote centers during the polls.
A total of nine executive magistrates, one judicial magistrate, RAB, BGB, Police and Ansar will be on duty to maintain the law and order situation during the election, he said.
Candidates have already concluded their hectic electoral campaign till midnight on Thursday.
In the polls, four candidates-- incumbent mayor Nazrul Islam Saudagar (Jug symbol), Ismail Hossain Talukdar Babul (Mobile phone), Fakruzzaman Matin (Coconut tree) and Anwar Hossain Bahadur (Rail engine)-- are in the election race for mayoral post while 26 candidates are contesting for nine ward councilors and 10 candidates are vying for three women reserved seats.
Workers and activists of the candidates were seen very much busy hanging posters and other election-related activities. Several parts of the Municipality got a new look with huge posters, banners and festoons.
